It premiered in 2008 at the Community Music Center of Boston's Quarter Note concert, which celebrated the 25th anniversary of Executive Director David Lapin.

 "A Child Said, What is the Grass" is a 10 minute piece for SAB chorus, children's chorus, soprano solo and chamber orchestra. It is based on the poem by Walt Whitman and is Americana in style.
