Private Lessons: Voice & Music Theory/Composition
Training
Eva Kendrick is currently serving her third year on the Voice and Music Theory Faculties at the Community Music Center of Boston (CMCB). She teaches classes in music theory, composition and solfege (ear-training) for the Intensive Study Program, as well as private lessons in composition, music theory and voice. She maintains a private voice studio in Medfield, MA and has just recently opened a studio in Providence, RI. She directs the Adult Choir at First Parish Medfield and has just started a position as Vocal Coach for a special Boston Latin Academy voice ensemble. In the past, Eva has served as music educator for the Opera Providence outreach program OPERAtunity and has taught the Senior Voice division at the SMARTS summer camp in Attleboro, MA. This year, she was a guest speaker with the Cantata Singers Classroom Cantatas program and at the Longy School of Music Composition Seminar. She has a B.M. in Vocal Performance from Rhode Island College and a M.M. in Composition with Distinction from the Longy School of Music.
Philosophy
Eva believes in a natural, healthy, and mindful approach to voice production, both in singing and in speaking. A typical lesson involves exercises in breathing and vocalizations as well as learning and working on songs. Eva may recommend specific songs for singers' improvement but is also happy to work with students on songs that they select, because it is important for singers to be excited about their music. Eva enjoys working with students of all ages and experience levels, but she recommends voice students be ages 10 and older.
Performance Opportunities
Eva is an active member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and encourages students to participate in local competitions, recitals and events. Last year she served as a judge for the Rhode Island Chapter, in which several of her students participated. Eva has bi-annual recitals for her voice studio at First Parish Medfield and an annual Voice Deptarment Recital at CMCB.
